President Rumen Radev met on Monday with chess player Nurgyul Salimova, who finished second in the Women's Chess World Cup, held in Azerbaijan's capital Baku last week. The Head of State congratulated Salimomva on reaching the final in one of the most prestigious chess competitions of the year and awarded her with the President's Badge of Honour.

Nurgyul Salimova's parents, her coach Zhivko Zhekov and Vasil Antonov, President of the Bulgarian Chess Federation 2022, took part in the meeting as well.

The participation in Baku revealed to the general public the irregularities in Bulgarian chess and the need for adequate measures, President Rumen Radev further said. Vasil Antonov also pointed out that focus should be put on the problems in order to find workable and effective solutions.

During the meeting, Nurgyul Salimova talked about the upcoming tournaments in which she will participate, her preparations for them, and her goals as a chess player.
