According to data from a nationally representative survey of the State Agency for Road Safety, around 5% of drivers use mobile phones while driving, which is also true for professional drivers operating public passenger transport buses.

In Bulgaria, according to expert estimates, the number of active drivers is about three million people. Of these, around 169,000 drivers are at any given moment using mobile phones while behind the wheel. Data at some census locations show a proportion of drivers using a mobile phone higher than 60%.
