site.btaPM Borissov at Porto Social Summit: States Should Invest in Digital Tools, Learning Process Modernization

Sofia, May 8 (BTA) - States should invest in digital tools, the modernization of the learning process and the training of teachers, said outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during the online meeting of the Porto Social Summit, organized by the Portuguese EU Presidency, the Bulgarian Government's information service reported here late on Friday.

According to Borissov, the times when someone's education was completed once they graduate are over.

He noted that Bulgaria supports the objective, included in the action plan of the European Pillar of Social Rights, according to which at least 60 per cent of all adults should be attending training courses every year by 2030.

Borissov told the forum's participants about the need to reach a high level of digitalization in the coming years by including it as a priority in the Member States' government programmes.

He noted the exceptional role information technologies play in people's lives, adding that one of Europe's super computers is located in Bulgaria and is ready to be put to use.

During his speech, Borissov said that in recent years, the Bulgarian Government has been investing substantially in the education system and infrastructure, managed to double teachers' salaries, and laid the foundations for successful online teaching in all school grades. "Therefore, I am optimistic, because the people quickly realized that they must train throughout their lives in order to be competitive on the labour market," the Bulgarian PM said. MY
