"My sincere thanks to the Prime Minister of Sweden for the help provided in fighting the fires raging in Bulgaria," President Rumen Radev wrote on X on Friday.

The assistance provided by Sweden and other European partners in the #rescueEU programme is invaluable, Radev further said.

Two Swedish planes, sent under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, took part on Thursday in extinguishing fires in the southwestern Bulgarian region of Blagoevgrad.

Earlier on Friday, Blagoevgrad Regional Governor Georgi Dinev said that the situation with fires in the region remains complicated.
