site.btaBulgaria among First 7 EU Member States Issuing Digital COVID Certificate as from June 1

Brussels, June 1 (BTA correspondent Nickolay Jeliazkov) -
Bulgaria is one of seven EU Member States that started issuing
first EU Digital COVID Certificates as from June 1. The other
six countries are Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Croatia and
Poland, the European Commission said in a press release on
Tuesday.

In the coming days and weeks, more Member States will connect to
the EU gateway that provides for the verification of the
security features contained in the QR codes of all certificates.
Since May 10, 22 countries have already tested the gateway
successfully, the Commission said. While the Regulation will be
applied from July 1, all Member States which have passed the
technical tests and are ready to issue and verify certificates
can now start using the system on a voluntary basis.

The EU certificate was proposed by the Commission to facilitate
the safe free movement of citizens within the EU during the
pandemic this summer. It is free of charge, secure and
accessible to all. Available in digital format or on paper, it
is a proof that a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19,
has tested negative, or has recovered from an infection.

The provisional political agreement proposed by the Commission
has to be formally adopted by the European Parliament and the
Council. NV/LG
