site.bta2021 FDI Net Flow Is Positive at Over EUR 1 Bln
According to preliminary data, the net flows of foreign direct investment in Bulgaria presented according to the directional principle recorded a positive value of 1,035.9 million euro (1.5 per cent of GDP) in January – December 2021, down by 1,236.9 million euro (54.4 per cent) from January – December 2020 (positive value of 2,272.8 million euro, 3.7 per cent of GDP), the Bulgarian National Bank said on Thursday.
Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria recorded a net outflow of 125.2 million euro in December 2021, compared with an outflow of 114.4 million euro in December 2020.
Equity (acquisition/disposal of shares and equities in cash and contributions in kind by non-residents in/from the capital and reserves of Bulgarian enterprises, and receipts/payments from/for real estate deals in the country) recorded a negative value of 90.6 million euro in January – December 2021, down by 442.2 million euro from a positive value of 351.6 million euro in January – December 2020.
Real estate investments of non-residents recorded an outflow of EUR 7.7 million, compared with an outflow of EUR 1.3 million in January – December 2020.
Reinvestment of earnings (the share of non-residents in the undistributed earnings/ loss of the enterprise based on preliminary profit and loss data) was estimated at a positive value of 1,587.7 million euro, compared with a positive value of 738.4 million euro in January – December 2020.
The net flow on debt instruments (the change in the net liabilities between affiliated enterprises on financial loans, suppliers’ credits and debt securities) recorded a negative value of 461.3 euro million in January – December 2021, compared with a positive value of 1,182.9 million euro in January – December 2020.
The largest net direct investment inflows in Bulgaria for January – December 2021 were from Luxembourg (454.5 million euro), Germany (284.8 million euro), and Austria (213.4 million euro), whereas the largest net outflows was to Russia (343.6 million euro) and Switzerland (143.7 million euro). PP
