One Police Officer Killed, 14 Injured in Road Traffic Accident


Bourgas, on the Black Sea, December 26 (BTA) - A ZIL-131
off-road truck carrying 15 Interior Ministry employees capsized
in a 4-metre-deep gully near the Village of Gorno Yabulkovo,
Sredets Municipality (Southeastern Bulgaria), at half past
midnight , Interior Minister Vesselin Vouchkov told a news
briefing in nearby Elhovo on Friday.

The driver of the truck was killed in the accident. The man,
aged 34, served with the Border Police in Rousse. The rest of
the police officers have been transported to a hospital with
various injuries. Six (including two who sustained limb
fractures) have been left under medical observation at a
hospital in Bourgas, Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Svetlozar
 Lazarov said at the same news conference.

The Interior Ministry employees were on their way back from a
specialized police operation on Bulgaria's border with Turkey.

In a declaration prompted by the accident, the Trade Union
Federation of the Employees in the Ministry of Interior demanded
 the resignations of part of the Ministry's leadership.
