Health Ministry to Introduce Bonuses for General Practitioners

Veliko Turnovo, January 13 (BTA) - The Health Ministry plans to
put in place a bonus scheme for general practitioners, said
Health Minister Petar Moskov in Veliko Turnovo on Tuesday. He
said there are 4,700 registered general practitioners across the
 country.

A set of criteria is being drafted which will be used to assess
how general practitioners perform. The top 10 per cent, or 470
doctors, will receive substantial bonuses, said Moskov.

According to him, doctors should actively treat patients instead
 of just cataloguing diseases.

Moskov said that a framework agreement is expected to be signed
between the Health Ministry and pharmaceutical industry
representatives that will ensure affordable medicine prices in
view of the available resources of the National Health Insurance
 Fund.

Moskov said that drugs will be reimbursed according to a new
mechanism under which some drugs will be reimbursed at 100 per
cent.

Deputy Health Minister Vanyo Sharkov said that residentship fees
 will be scrapped
and resident doctors will be able to conclude contracts with
accredited health establishments.

A team of the Health Ministry is inspecting the Stefan Cherkezov
general hospital in Veliko Turnovo which invested 800,000 leva
to renovate the children, internal medicine and intensive
departments.
