Deputy Chairman of NATO Military Committee Visits Sofia


Sofia, January 15 (BTA) - The Deputy Chairman of NATO's Military
Committee, Lieutenant General Mark O.Schissler, paid a visit to
Bulgaria Thursday. Meeting him in Sofia, Deputy Defence
Minister Dimiter Kyumyurdjiev and Defence Chief Rear Admiral
Roumen Nikolov told him that Bulgaria appreciates the new risks
and threats arising due to the volatility of the strategic
security environment, the Defence Ministry said.

The two sides discussed the opportunities for more active
participation of military formations of the Alliance member
states and partners in exercises held in the territory of
Bulgaria. The Bulgarian side declared readiness to participate
in the security enhancement measures of the Alliance by aligning
its exercises with those of NATO.

Lieutenant General Schissler was briefed on the ongoing
transformation of the Bulgarian Armed Forces.

He thanked Bulgaria for its contribution to the operations and
capabilities of the Alliance, the Defence Ministry said.
