Youngest Bulgarian Municipality Poised for Second Roun of Voting for Mayor


Surnitsa, Southwestern Bulgaria, March 16 (BTA) - The youngest
Bulgarian municipality, Surnitsa, will conduct a second round of
voting for mayor in its local by-elections. The mayoral seat in
the mountainous municipality, established on January 1, will be
contested on March 22 by candidates Moustafa Alikanov,
supported by the ruling GERB party, and Nebi Bozov, backed by
the opposition Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), the
Municipal Election Commission said on Monday.

The final results of the first round, conducted on March 15,
show that the 11-member Municipal Council of Surnitsa will
comprise five members from MRF, four from GERB and two from the
Reformist Bloc.

Voter turnout in the five voting sections in the municipality
was 74.78 per cent, the Central Election Commission said. A
total of 3,182 voters went to the polls on Sunday.
