Golf Tourism Can Drive Upmarket Tourism in Bulgaria - Minister

Balchik, on the Black Sea, April 4 (BTA) - Tourism Minister
Nikolina Angelkova said golf tourism can be a driving force
behind upmarket tourism in Bulgaria. Golf tourism is very
promising because it brings together the tourists' interest in
nature, cultural and historical sites, the seaside and spa
tourism, she said at a roundtable on golf tourism at the
Lighthouse Golf Complex near Balchik.

Bulgaria has seven certified golf courses and could become a
year-round destination. To become an effective, competitive
destination, this country needs at least 30 golf courses,
according to the Ministry's strategy.

Angelkova said a special charter programme is being prepared for
late spring and early autumn, which can be launched in March
2016 at the earliest. It targets Scandinavian, German and
British tourists and can be used by golfers as well.

The State and businesses should pool their efforts to develop
golf tourism. Moreover, Bulgaria is not unknown to world golfers
and has been named the most promising golf destination, Sports
Minister Krassen Kralev said at the forum.
