Nearly One Million Bulgarians Log 14.5 Mln Hours Overtime Work in 2014

Sofia, April 6 (BTA) - A total of 929,084 factory and office
workers in Bulgaria at 3,516 enterprises logged 14,532,551 hours
 of overtime work in 2014, the General Labour Inspectorate
Executive Agency reported on Monday.

Traditionally, medics work most in excess of the legally
established maximum of eight hours a day, five days a week. As
many as 34,774 hospital employees worked 1,776,234 hours
overtime (an average of 51 hours per person). The second largest
 number is 19,889 security guards at companies which do not use
technical security systems. They logged 742,156 hours of
overtime last year (an average of 37 hours per person). Next
come urban and suburban transport drivers: their number is the
smallest, 8,225, but they overtimed most: 543,144 hours, or 66
hours on the average for the year.

The Labour Code prohibits overtime work except in medicine,
transport and some other areas. A worker may not log more than
150 hours of overtime annually, the Agency specified.
