Municipalities Offered Defence Ministry Properties
Montana, Northwestern Bulgaria, September 7 (BTA) - Defence
Minister Nikolai Nenchev Monday offered to donate to
municipalities Defence Ministry properties that are no longer
used. The matter was discussed during Nenchev's visit to Montana
and talks with Mayor Zlatko Zhivkov.
Nenchev said that there are Ministry properties in many
municipalities, which the Ministry no longer needs. It, however,
continues to pay taxes and security costs for these. "We have
two options: to sell these or to donate them. My choice is to
donate them to the municipalities to make sure they are
efficiently managed," said the Minister. He added that the
municipalities can use such property to apply for EU funding.
The Minister said that they can donate a 1.2 ha property in the
centre of Montana which once was military barracks. The mayor
said that the Town Hall will request the property officially by
a decision of the Municipal Council. It will also request from
the Defence Ministry equipment for dealing with the consequences
of natural disasters.
