Energy Companies Show Signs of Financial Improvement - Minister

Sofia, December 7 (BTA) - There are some signs for improvement of the financial condition of the companies in the energy sector, Energy Minister Temenouzhka Petkova said here Monday. She was speaking at a forum on the development of the energy sector, held in Sofia.

Her conclusion was based on a comparison between figures for September 30, 2015 with this time last year.

These figures show that the National Electricity Companies had losses of 324 million leva at the end of September 2014 and 218 million this year.

The Minister gave the credit for this improvement to effective policies in the sector and said the measures undertaken by the government, Parliament and the energy regulator are beginning to produce good results.

Petkova said that the priorities in the sector remain financial stabilization, security of supplies through diversification of the sources and the supply routes for natural gas, full liberalization of the electricity market, protection of Bulgarian consumers and development of local production of energy sources.
