Access to Information about Affiliation with Communist-Era Special Services Goes Public

Sofia, January 4 (BTA) - The government has put on a platform for open government data information about all persons who have been checked for affiliation with the communist-are special services and military intelligence. The information is available at opendata.government.bg on the initiative of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova.

All data on this website was previously available only to various state institutions.

The information about the affiliation of office-holders with the communist-era special services and military intelligence has gone public under a special law following checks by a special commission.

Checks for such affiliation have been carried through the years for various categories of office-holders and the results were announced following each check.

It is the first time the complete information for all checks is available in a format that allows computer processing. This will facilitate checks and analyses by researchers, journalists and members of the civil society by various criteria, including period, geographic region and institution, and will allow cross-checks with other databases, including the Trade Register, the information system for management and monitoring of the use of EU funding in Bulgaria, the register of public procurements and others, which are also publicly available.
