Prime Minister Borissov Orders Checks into Public Procurement Procedures in Every Institution

Sofia, February 24 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has ordered the inspectorates checking the ministries' work to conduct full checks of the public procurement procedures in every institution. "I want to secure full transparency there and all doubts about the public money removed," Borissov is quoted as saying during Cabinet's meeting on Wednesday by the Government's press service. The Prime Minister has asked the ministers to inform him in case of the smallest doubt about irregularities. Borissov said he would not allow the State to be destabilized over someone's financial interest, adding that not a grain of doubt should linger among the public that someone is benefiting at the State's expense.

Last week Prime Minister Boyko Borissov ordered that all major public procurements be stopped and be contracted under a recently adopted new law. Among the cancelled public procurements were one for a large public procurement contract for the production of IDs worth 500 million and a contract for construction of extensions of the Hemus Motorway. Several companies which are allegedly connected with MP Delyan Peevski and LUKOil Bulgaria General Manager Valentin Zlatev, featured among the contractors for most of the terminated public procurements.
