Interior Minister Attends European Justice and Home Affairs Council Meeting

Brussels/Sofia, February 25 (BTA) - In her address at the European Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting on Thursday Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova stressed the need to continue the work for finding a common European solution to the current challenges, Buchvarova's Ministry said in a press release.

The Bulgarian Interior Minister said that the main priority should be stopping the migratory inflow at the Turkish borders with the EU, stressing the importance of the effective cooperation with Turkey.

Buchvarova also stressed the key importance of the coordinated fight against the migrants trafficking networks, given that in most of the cases, the migration is not spontaneous but assisted. In her words, the mechanism for resettlement of migrants does not work and should be reconsidered.

The Bulgarian Interior Minister attended a working breakfast with the countries on the Western Balkan migratory route during which the representatives of the countries in the region presented the current situation with migrants and the measures undertaken at national level to cope with the pressure.
