Trade Union Federation to Stage Indefinite Protest to Press Demand for Start of Genuine and Efficient Reforms at Interior Ministry

Sofia, February 29 (BTA) - The Trade Union Federation of the Employees in the Ministry of Interior will organize an indefinite protest to press demands for the start of genuine and efficient reforms at the Ministry, the Association's Governing Board Chairman Valentin Popov told a BTA-hosted news conference on Monday.

The Federation will stage a major national protest before the amendments to the Ministry of Interior Act are laid before Parliament for second reading. Before that, a series of warning protests will take place countrywide.

Popov noted that his Federation disagrees with the proposed revisions. In his opinion, these proposals cannot qualify even as a partial reform, let alone a comprehensive one.

The most controversial provisions, according to the tradeunionists, include the five-day reduction of the employees' paid leave, the cut of retirement severance pay for employees appointed after 2017 from 20 to 12 monthly salaries, and the transformation of the fire service into an agency. According to the Federation, most of the amendments are unreasoned.
