Prominent Journalist Petko Bocharov Dies

Sofia, March 2 (BTA) - Prominent journalist Petko Bocharov has passed away, his family told BTA. He was 97.

A law graduate, Bocharov is one of the doyens of the Bulgarian News Agency, BTA. He started work in BTA's International Information Service as a translator from English in 1952. He worked for the service until October 1, 1983, when he retired.

In his journalistic career Bocharov has also worked for different programmes of the national television, where he had the first commentary spot in 1962, as well as for Radio Free Europe and Deutsche Welle. After he left BTA, he worked as a free-lance journalist and in 2016 was the oldest working journalist in Bulgaria.

In May 2014 Bocharov was awarded the Golden Age Prize, Seal of King Simeon The Great, of the Culture Ministry.
