Bulgarian President Receives Honorary Title of Baku State University

Baku/Sofia, March 11 (BTA) - Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev was awarded an honorary title by the Baku State University for his contribution to the development of international relations, Plevneliev's press secretariat said on Friday.

"We live in a fast-changing world and the politicians are called upon to recognize the processes that will shape the outlook of the coming decades," Plevneliev said in his lecture to the students and faculty of the Baku State University.

"In the process of globalization we need friends with whom to face together the common challenges," Plevneliev said. He noted the friendly relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan.

Plevneliev said that Azerbaijan is an important partner in achieving energy diversification not only for Bulgaria and Southeast Europe but for the European Union as well. The President voiced categorical support for establishing strategic partnership between the EU and Azerbaijan. "Ensuring energy diversification, increasing energy security and creating new opportunities for economic partnership are only part of the instrument we can use to adapt to the changing world," Plevneliev said.
