Meeting in Parliament Discusses Improvement of Infrastructure in Southeast Europe

Sofia, March 12 (BTA) - The Bulgarian National Assembly hosted a meeting of members of the Economy, Infrastructure and Energy Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) which discussed opportunities for improving the infrastructure in South-East Europe, the National Assembly said in a press release.

Committee Chairperson Diana Yordanova said that the issue is of big importance for the entire Europe, proof of which is the large number of proposals made by the national Parliaments of the SEECP member states.

Dimiter Savov of the Bulgarian Transport Ministry said that the most important goal of the countries in South-East Europe is modernizing the transport infrastructure. Savov said that in the past fifteen years Bulgaria has attached priority importance to the work on the pan-European transport corridors that pass via the country. The joint efforts in the implementation of cross-border projects in the region will attract more European funding for the modernization of the transport network, he said.

The Bulgarian National Assembly hosts a meeting of SEECP's Economy, Infrastructure and Energy Committee for the second year running. The meeting, attended by representatives of ten Parliaments, is part of the current Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office of SEECP.
