Agriculture Minister Taneva Concerned with Bulgartabac Leaving Raw Tobacco Market

Sofia, March 18 (BTA) - Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Friday, Agriculture Minister Dessislava Taneva said that if Bulgartabac left the raw tobacco market, this would be a serious problem. She reacted to plans by the holding to cut job and reduce by 80 per cent its scheme for purchasing Bulgarian varieties of tobacco in the future.

Taneva said that this year's tobacco purchase campaign has not ended.There is unpurchased tobacco and negotiations are held with traders. She said that another six or seven cigarette makers besides Bulgartabac operate on the tobacco market.

Taneva voiced a hope that amendments to the Tobacco Act will help overcome the chaos in the sector which discourages participants.
