Prime Minister Borissov: We Want to Set Things in Order in Bulgariaso that Everyone Respects the Law

Brussels, March 18 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - "We want to set things in order in Bulgaria so that everyone respects the law," said Friday Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. He was approached to comment on an initiative to scrap the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) for Bulgaria.

"I have always believed that the CVM should be used in order to reform the judicial system thoroughly," said the Prime Minister. He recalled a statement by European Commission (EC) President Jean-Claude Juncker that it is his personal goal that EC's monitoring on Bulgaria and Romania in home affairs and justice is lifted within his term.

Borissov said he had requested a schedule from the European Commission with tasks and deadlines until May 2017. According to him, in 18 or 24 months progress under the EC-approved schedule can be reported and Bulgaria may request the mechanism to be scrapped. "The CVM is working, I support it and I am convinced that within the term of this commission we'll succeed," said Borissov, adding that the goal is not to investigate crimes but to prevent them.
