ABV Deputy Chair to Submit Request for Access to Public Information at Presidency

Varna, on the Black Sea, April 23 (BTA) - ABV Deputy Chair Roumen Petkov said here Saturday that he will submit a request for access to public information at the Presidency on Monday. The information concerns possible talks between President Rosen Plevneliev and his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko during Plevneliev's visit to Kiev about the establishment of a joint Romanian-Bulgarian-Ukrainian military brigade.

Asked to comment on the amendments to the Election Code adopted by Parliament this week, Petkov said that the introduction of compulsory voting does not correspond normally to the provisions on the removal from the electoral register of people who did not vote in the previous national elections, particularly given that those who choose not to cast their vote are usually aged between 18 and 30.

Petkov described as a weakness of the amended Election Code the keeping of the current technology for holding elections. The ABV leadership also disapproves of the reduction of the election campaign period, he said. He listed additional provisions which do not guarantee that Bulgarians will have the opportunity for a democratic and informed vote.
