Bulgarians Advised to Refrain from Travelling to Turkey

Sofia, July 20 (BTA) - The Foreign Ministry issued an advisory Wednesday saying that the situation in Turkey remains unstable, and advising Bulgarians to refrain from travelling there until things get back to normal.

The advisory says that a series of operations by the Turkish security forces is being conducted on the entire territory of the country, that tension may increase which could generate threats to the physical safety of people. At the same time, public events such as meetings and rallies are held at many places. The level of risk remains high, and clashes are possible at isolated locations.

Bulgarians in Turkey are strongly advised to stay away from busy locations in big cities.

The border checkpoints between Bulgaria and Turkey are open and work normally. Traffic to Turkey is busy at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint due to the customary journeys home at this time of the year of Turkish workers in Western Europe. Control is strengthened at the Turkish side of the border where detailed checks are conducted of IDs.
