Foreign Ministry Announcement following Turkey's State of Emergency

Sofia, July 21 (BTA) - Turkey's Council of Ministers under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency at 11:40 pm on July 20, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said.

The decision based on Article 120 of the Turkish Constitution will be submitted to the Grand National Assembly. Under the Constitution, following its approval the Council of Ministers may issue decrees with the force of law on measures necessitated by the state of emergency, including restrictions of fundamental rights and freedoms.

Once the decrees are published, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry will promptly inform Bulgarian nationals so they can comply with the new measures during their stay in Turkey.
