Bulgaria Hands over to Turkey Person Suspected of Ties with Fethullah Gulen's Organisation

Sofia, August 10 (BTA) - Turkish national Abdullah Buyuk, suspected of ties with Fethullah Gulen's organisation FETO, has been coercively taken to the border and handed over to Turkey for exceeding his authorized stay in the country, the Interior Ministry confirmed for BTA on Wednesday. Such information initially appeared in Turkish media.

Buyuk was released from custody by decision of the Sofia Appellate Court (SAC) on March 28, 2016 because the magistrates rejected his extradition request, a check with the SAC reveals.

An extradition request was submitted on February 15 by the Anatolian Chief Republican Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul, acting on which the Turkish national was remanded in custody, as confirmed by the Court.

On March 9, the Sofia City Court rejected the request for the person's extradition and twenty days later SAC confirmed this decision.

Buyuk was not extradited because Turkey had not submitted a new extradition request.

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, as quoted by the Hurriyet newspaper, that Buyuk will not be granted political asylum in Bulgaria, the authorities have rejected his request and have ordered his extradition, and Buyuk's return to Turkey is being prepared.
