Varna Airport Expects 20% Increase in Number of Passengers in 2016
Varna, August 11 (BTA) - Varna Airport expects a 20 per cent increase in the number of passengers serviced in 2016, which is the best result of this airport in the last ten years, said Ulrich Heppe, CEO of Twin Star Airport Management AD which operates the Bulgarian seaside airports in Varna and Bourgas.
From the start of 2016 to August 8, Varna Airport serviced around 42,000 Polish tourists, which is an increase by 89 per cent compared to last year, Heppe said.
Varna Airport has also registered significant growth in the number of German passengers - 44 per cent thus far - and the number of British tourists serviced by the airport increased by 18 per cent. The situation is very good also with Russian tourists, although they prefer Bourgas Airport where a slight increase in their number has been registered compared to 2015, Heppe noted.
Varna Airport Executive Director Dimiter Kostadinov commented that the distribution of the airport's work has been done in the best way possible so that the significant growth in the number of passengers does not burden the airport's infrastructure and services.
In his words, there was a week in July when Varna Airport serviced a record number of flights: 648 in total.
On Thursday, Varna Airport welcomed its 1,000,000th passenger for 2016, Polish national Michal Masne [name might be misspelled], who arrived in Varna from Katowice.
