Illegal Migrants Detained at Bulgaria's Borders with Serbia and Turkey

Sofia, August 11 (BTA) - Officers of the Bregovo Border Police Department detained 40 aliens near Bulgaria's border with Serbia on August 10. Thirty of them said they are from Afghanistan, seven from Pakistan and three from Nepal, the Chief Directorate of Border Police said on Thursday.

Twenty-six members of the group were found to have aliens' registration cards issued by Bulgaria's State Agency for Refugees. They were taken out of the border area. The rest were transported to the migrants' centre in Elhovo, Southeastern Bulgaria.

Also on August 10, officers of the Malko Turnovo Border Police Department detained nine migrants near Rezovo, at Bulgaria's border with Turkey, after they entered Bulgaria illegally. Four of them had Iranian passports, but the rest had no identity documents. The authorities continue working on the case.

Over the last 24 hours, the Regional Directorate of Border Police in Elhovo prevented over 220 migrants from crossing the border from Turkey into Bulgaria in eight separate illegal attempts.
