Defence Chief Sees Need for Military Personnel Bonuses
Varna, on the Black Sea, August 14 (BTA) - Defence Chief Lieutenant General Konstantin Popov on Sunday said that military personnel should receive financial incentives. According to him, bonuses will help overcome understaffing in the armed forces.
He and armed forces commanders have already submitted a proposal to the parliamentary defence committee. "We have suggested several scenarios and I hope that the right solution will be found because Bulgaria has an increasing need of its army and navy," said Lieut.-Gen Popov.
He said that measures have already been mapped out to ensure the career development of talented servicemen.
Popov took part in a commissioning ceremony for the cadets of class 2016 of the Naval Academy in Varna.
Attending the ceremony were Deputy Defence Minister Dessislava Yosifova, Lieutenant General Mark O. Schissler, Deputy Chairman of NATO's Military Committee, representatives of the central and local authorities, officers and members of the public.
