Government Approves Revisions to Fund for Treatment of Children Operation

Sofia, August 24 (BTA) - At its regular meeting Wednesday the Government approved revisions to the Decree relevant to the establishment of the Centre Fund for Treatment of Children, Health Minister Peter Moskov said, emerging from the meeting. The main changes refer to the way the fund functions as well as the number of staff and the organization of work.

The fund will have additional opportunities to provide transport, accommodation of the children and one accompanying party, as well as such for three additional control examinations after tests and transplantation of children. The scope of activities for organizational and financial support has been specified, including the now existing ones. There is also a new opportunity for translation services, where necessary, as well as for payment of medications from the list under Article 266a of the Medicinal Products in Humane Medicine Act approved, but not on the market. At the same time, limitations for funding methods not in compliance with the legislation or the standards of the relative country of treatment are introduced.

The number of administrative staff is preserved, but there is a new requirement that the fund should be headed by an MD with acknowledged specialty. External expertise will be in the hands of both certain medical specialists and medical establishments with consultative bodies that can provide comprehensive consultations to the children.

The procedure should take a month from the deposit of the application to the decision, Moskov said.
