Socialist Nominee Says He Has a a Cause to Follow

Sofia, August 24 (BTA) - "I do not feel like a hostage of the relations between the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and ABV. I have a cause to follow," BSP's presidential candidate, former Air Force Commander Roumen Radev (Ret.), said on Wednesday.

"These are relations between parties. I am not a member either of the BSP or of ABV and they are the ones to reach agreements about coalitions and initiative committees," Radev also said. The nominee noted he is worried by the arguments but praised the proposed format of an initiative committee, which will be open to ABV and any progressive formations, parties or organizations. The ambition is to attract the broadest possible circle of voters.

Radev said he was informed of the decision of the BSP leadership to withdraw from the talks with ABV but knew that the dialogue between the two parties would continue. He was told that this is an attempt to attract a higher number of people to vote for his candidature. Radev confirmed he declined to speak with ABV leader Georgi Purvanov after the denial of support.

"I feel like a candidate not only of the BSP. I expect the support of many Bulgarians," said Radev.
