State of Emergency over Big Fire in Mount Sakar Lifted
Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria, September 2 (BTA) - The state of emergency declared in the Topolvgrad Municipality, Southern Bulgaria, over a big fire that broke out in Mount Sakar on August 30, was lifted on Friday morning, Regional Administration spokesperson Nelly Vulkanova said. The outbreak has been contained and is said to be "calm".
The fire broke out during the clearing of a pasture with a tractor, and spread to 1,200 ha of land, most of which deciduous and coniferous forests. Fifty residents of the nearby village of Bulgarska Polyana were evacuated on August 30.
This has been the largest wild fire in Bulgaria this year, the Forestry Executive Agency said on August 31.
