Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Quits Reformist Bloc, Will Start New Right Project

Sofia, November 9 (BTA) - "After finding a clear-cut difference in positions with the rest of the parties in the Reformist Bloc, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), as it stated a long time ago and despite the patience we have been showing for one year for the sake of the agreement, will be implementing a new Right project," DSB leader Radan Kanev told journalists in Parliament on Wednesday. "DSB is outside the Reformist Bloc," Kanev also said.

He did not specify when this project will take shape. "Let's see when the early or regular parliamentary elections will be held, we reckon with the schedule of the National Assembly," Kanev explained.

Asked whether businessman Ivo Prokopiev will finance the new Right project, Kanev said: "I refuse to comment on nonsense." He specified that Tuesday's meeting between the two was not about that project.

"After the result of the referendum, the word 'party' will take on a whole new meaning. Speaking of parties at this point is a symptom of detachment from reality. Obviously, there will be a very strong majoritarian element in elections in Bulgaria. Obviously, party financing will have to be cut," Kanev commented.

In his words, even though voting in the referendum is not compulsory, if Bulgarian politicians ignore the will of more than 3 million people, they will cease to be politicians. According to Kanev, all Bulgarian parties, from the smallest to the largest, will have to reform themselves radically. "You saw how the famous [vote-getting] machine of [GERB campaign manager Tsvetan] Tsvetanov broke down like a cart on a rocky road in the first round of the [November 6 presidential] elections," the DSB leader commented.
