Sofia, November 12 (BTA) - Sports Minister Krassen Kralev Friday
 opened the World Sambo Championships in Sofia. More than 600
wrestlers arrived from 87 countries for the event, which is part
 of the Sofia - European Capital of Sport initiative.

SAMBO International Federation (FIAS) President Vasily Shestakov
 awarded an honorary medal to Bulgarian Sambo Federation
President Roumen Stoilov for his contribution to this sport. The
 championships mark the 60th anniversary of sambo in Bulgaria.

The wrestlers will compete for 27 sets of medals until November
13. Sambo wrestling will take place in nine weight categories
for men and women each. Combat sambo fights will take place in
nine weight categories.

On Friday, Bulgaria won one silver and three bronze medals.
