Tsacheva to Remain National Assembly Chairperson

Sofia, November 15 (BTA) - Tsetska Tsacheva remains Chairperson of the National Assembly and is not going to resign from the post, she herself told reporters in Parliament after a meeting of the parliamentary group of GERB on Tuesday.

At a news conference on Sunday evening immediately after it became clear that Tsacheva lost the presidential elections, she said she might resign as Parliament Chairperson after an analysis of the election outcome, noting however this was something she would have to discuss with her parliamentary group first.

"The entire parliamentary group backs me, I am not going to resign," Tsacheva said on Tuesday.

Parliament's plenary sitting which starts at 2 p.m. on Wednesday has only one item on the agenda, taking a vote on the resignation of the Boyko Borissov government submitted to the National Assembly on Monday. On Thursday and Friday Parliament is to have first-reading debates of the budgets of the public social insurance, the National Health Insurance Fund, and the draft 2017 state budget.

Tsacheva said that the draft budget has so far been passed at first reading by most of the parliamentary committees with the exception of the Legal Affairs Committee. Still, she said, she could not rule out "below-the-belt hits" by the partners in the government.
