Reformist Bloc Won't Be Part of Possible Caretaker Government

Sofia, November 22 (BTA) - The Reformist Bloc won't participate with its own ministers in a possible caretaker government, said Reformist Bloc co-floor leader Nayden Zelenogorski, taking a question after consultations with President Rosen Plevneliev on Tuesday.

Union of Democratic Forces leader Bozhidar Loukarski and Economy Minister said that the Bloc didn't discuss a possible handover of an exploratory mandate for the formation of a government within the 43rd legislature. "If the President decided to hand a mandate to the Bloc, then we'll consider it but this is impossible without GERB within the current legislature and GERB are unwilling," he added.

Zelenogorski said that the Bloc had committed to voting through the budget bill because the state cannot be left for seven or eight months without a budget. The Bloc also said that the anti-corruption bill should also be voted through as they place priority on it together with the anti-terror law and the referendum questions.

"There is this idea that we should rush to draft new laws and overhaul the whole elections system," said Zelenogorski adding that the Reformist Bloc wants an in-depth discussion on election legislation. "We should have more time so that we are all aware of the advantages and disadvantages of a purely majoritarian system and zero subsidies for parties because this means that for the better part the parties will be financed from shady sources and this will be tens or hundreds of times more expensive for the state," said Zelenogorski.

Meglena Kuneva, Borislav Velikov, Korman Ismailov and Todor Tanev also took part in the consultations.

Democrats for Strong Bulgaria leader Radan Kanev held a separate meeting with President Plevneliev.

Asked why Kanev did not attend the consultations, Zelenogorski said that a meeting on Monday of the Bloc's Executive Council had named the Bloc's representatives for the consultations.
