Prosecuting Magistracy Demands Hristo Bisserov's Case to Be Returned to Appellate Court

Sofia, November 24 (BTA) - The prosecuting magistracy submitted a request to the Supreme Court of Cassation to have a case against former parliament chair Hristo Bisserov returned to the appellate court. According to the prosecution, the lower instance court has made a series of violations, which is why the case should start over in the appellate court.

The prosecution wants Bisserov to be tried only for tax evasion, which means that the charges for failure to report currency transactions have been practically dropped. This gave Bisserov's lawyer, Hristo Botev, a reason to ask why two letters rogatory had been submitted to Switzerland. He also wants the Supreme Court to acquit Bisserov of all charges, just as the two lower instance court had done so far.

Bisserov did not appear in court on Thursday, which is his legal right. The Supreme Court of Cassation has one month to pronounce itself.
