Bulgaria's PM, Afghanistan's CEO Discuss Bilateral Readmission Agreement

Sofia, December 1 (BTA) - In a telephone conversation on Thursday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr Abdullah Abdullah, discussed the state of bilateral relations and expressed readiness for their advancement, the Government Information Service said.

Borissov stressed Bulgaria's commitment to Afghanistan's recovery and development but voiced concern over the growing flow or migrants from Afghanistan. The Prime Minister thanked for the cooperation extended on the part of Afghanistan in issuing documents to Afghan citizens with an unsettled status in the territory of Bulgaria who volunteered to be returned to their homeland.

The Prime Minister also raised the question about signing a readmission agreement between Bulgaria and Afghanistan, which should lay down a legal framework for a sustained resolution of such cases. The sides reached agreement that the two countries' foreign and interior ministries start active work on drafting the document.

During the conversation, Dr Abdullah thanked Borissov and Bulgaria for the activity of the Bulgarian contingent in Afghanistan.
