Ministry Mulls Protection Measures for Customers of Bankrupt Tour Operators
Sofia, December 14 (BTA) - The Tourism Ministry is considering changes to the Tourism Act that will set up a special account or a guarantee fund to maximize protection for customers of failed tour operators. The changes have been put up for a public consideration and next year the bill will be submitted to Parliament, said Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova on Wednesday.
Changes aim to guarantee consumer rights and drastic reduction of the time to refund claims. Angelkova said that currently there are 3,500 registered tour operators and the new requirement will weed out the unfair companies.
On Tuesday, Bulgaria's third largest tour operator Alfatour declared bankruptcy.
