Ombudsman Petitions Sofia Municipal Council to Scrap Legal Adviser Fees Cliamed by Heating Utility

Sofia, December 14 (BTA) - Ombudsman Maya Manolova on Wednesday submitted a draft resolution to the Sofia Municipal Council to end a practice of the Sofia heating utility to charge fees for legal advisers in proceedings against debtors.

The legal fees total 950 leva for each case regardless of the amount of outstanding payments, which in some cases may bee as little as 10 leva.

The Ombudsman argues that fees for legal advisers figure in the price of heating paid by customers.

In 2015, the company reported 15 million leva in revenues from legal adviser fees.

On December 22, Manolova will attend the last pre-Christmas meeting of the Sofia Municipal Council, which will discuss the business plan of the Sofia heating utility for 2017.
