Education Ministry Remains Committed to Policy for Increase of Students from Bulgarian
Diaspora

Sofia, December 16 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Education Ministry is committed to the policy for increasing the number of students from Bulgarian communities abroad who are admitted to Bulgarian universities, Education Minister Meglena Kuneva said. She was speaking Thursday at a meeting with students from the Bulgarian diaspora and was quoted by her Ministry. "I feel you so close because we have worked for you," the Minister told the students.

Traditionally, the Ministry invites to a meeting all first-year students from the Bulgarian diaspora, to discuss how the application process can be streamlined and conditions improved for them during their studies in Bulgaria.

A total of 757 youths from Macedonia, Ukraine, Moldova, Serbia, Kosovo and Albania were admitted to Bulgarian universities this year after a large-scale awareness campaign held abroad by Kuneva's Ministry.

Admission for the 2016-17 academic year was increased to 1,000 students from 400 the previous year. Interest was high but the admission quota remained unfilled.

"You are the best ambassadors for Bulgaria. I ask of you to spread your enthusiasm to more young people who can come and study in Bulgaria," the Minister said.

She urged the students to work hard and demand hard work of their professors, and said they will always have the support of the Ministry team.

Kuneva also told the students that by choosing to study in Bulgaria they chose the European Union and found a door that is open for them to the rest of the world.
