Borissov, Trump Talk on the Phone

Sofia, December 16 (BTA) - Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and US President-elect Donald Trump talked on the telephone on Friday, the government information service said.

The two discussed the current international and domestic political situation and the two countries' excellent partnership. They voiced an expectation that it would continue under the new US administration.

Borissov familiarized Trump with Bulgaria's macroeconomic indicators, noting the economic growth, which is one of Europe's highest, zero inflation, low taxes and small external debt. Bulgaria's stability and role in the region make it one of the safest countries for investments, he said. The two also discussed the steps Bulgaria is taking towards diversifying its energy sources and supply routes.

Borissov again set forth his position that the situation in the world in general, and Europe in particular in the wake of the migrant crisis, can return to normal only by ending the military conflicts which are the key cause of refugee flows. Borissov underlined the role of the leaders of the major powers in this process. "Yours is a huge responsibility, human lives all over the world are at stake," he told Trump.

The US President-elect said he hoped the two would meet as soon as possible to discuss possible ways to expand bilateral cooperation. With Christmas in sight, he wished the Bulgarians prosperity and success.
