No Indications for Increased Terrorist Threat in Bulgaria - Defence, Interior Ministers

Stara Zagora, South Central Bulgaria/Vidin, on the Danube, March 23 (BTA) - No indications are present for an increased terrorist threat in Bulgaria, caretaker ministers of defence, Stefan Yankov, and of the interior, Plamen Uzunov, said Thursday, in Stara Zagora and Vidin, respectively, commenting the situation after Wednesday's Westminster attack in London.

"What happened on Wednesday in London [...] is a signal that constant vigilance is necessary. We have such vigilance in Bulgaria. [...] Of course, we are aware that 100 per cent protection and guarantee do not exist, but the good news is that all services working on this at the moment have no immediate indications for threats of this type on Bulgarian territory," Yanev said in Stara Zagora, where he took part in the welcome ceremony for the 32nd contingent back from a mission in Afghanistan.

Yanev also said that the situation along the Bulgarian border at the moment is normal and that "no signals are there about increased migratory pressure".

In Vidin Plamen Uzunov said the Interior Ministry does not have new data warranting the introduction of special measures or increasing the extent of anti-terror readiness following Wednesday's attack in London. Uzunov said that the Interior Ministry is in permanent readiness and has ready anti-terrorist plans but no new data are present at the moment to heighten the readiness.
