Protestors Block Bus from Turkey as It Tries to Enter Bulgaria On Suspicions that It Brings "Voting Tourists"

Sofia, March 24 (BTA) - Protestors Friday prevented the entry into Bulgaria of a bus coming from Turkey via the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint, the Interior Ministry said. The Ministry said the protestors are supporters of a political party without naming it.

Throughout the election campaign in Bulgaria, the United Patriots have been threatening to block the Bulgarian-Turkish border in a bid to minimize Turkey's influence on the election outcome in Bulgaria, which they see as coming through the Bulgarian migrants voting for Bulgarian Parliament in large numbers.

Protests against "voting tourism" are ongoing at all three crossings of the border with Turkey but the situation is calm, the Interior Ministry said.

They also said that the protestors have a permit to protest and that public order remains undisturbed.

The border with Turkey was previously blocked briefly by supporters of the United Patriots coalition on March 21.
