Visual Artist Ulay Makes First Appearance in Bulgaria with Exibition "I Other"

Sofia, April 1 (BTA) - Visual artist Frank Uwe Laysiepen, more popular as Ulay, makes his first appearance in Bulgaria with his "I Other Exhibtion" which opens on April 27 as part of the Masters of Photography platform in the Vivacom Art Hall in downtown Sofia, the organizers of the event said.

Ulay has been part of the international art scene since the late 1960s. For years now he and Marina Abramovic have been the most influential creative couple in the arts.

"I Other" starts with some of the emblematic works in Ulay's oeuvre, in which he focuses on his own body and its social alienation, and then goes on to engage the audience in a fascinating dialogue with presentations of his relations to his fellow humans, be it close friends or complete strangers, in keeping with the underlying conceptual premise of the show: to present Ulay's work through the prism of his interpersonal relations, which constitute an integral part of his artistic practice.

The exhibition also puts on view unknown documents of Ulay's long career in art, showcasing often ignored artistic materials such as journals, drawings, travel photography and sound recordings.
