Permanent Undersecretary  of Defence Vasilev  Dismissed

Sofia, May 16 (BTA) - The Permanent Undersecretary of Defence, Rumen Vasilev, was dismissed on Monday on the Defence Minister's orders, the Defence Ministry told BTA Tuesday.

According to the Defence and Armed Forces Act, the Permanent Secretary of Defence is a high-ranking civil servant at the Ministry of Defence, appointed for a four-year term by the Minister, following a selection procedure. The appointment has to also be coordinated with the Prime Minister. Rumen Vasilev was appointed to the post by caretaker defence minister Stefan Yanev on April 1, 2017, after the term of his predecessor Dobromir Totev expired.

The position's duties will be transferred to a head of directorate at the Defence Ministry until a new Permanent Secretary of Defence is appointed following a selection procedure, the Ministry explained.
