site.btaSofia Airport Posts 37% Increase in Passengers in June YoY

Sofia, July 17 (BTA) - Sofia Airport has posted a 37.2 per cent year-on-year increase in passengers in June as part of a steady upward trend in recent months, its press office said.

The airport handled more than 570,000 passengers, up 37.2 per cent from a year earlier. Terminal 2 handled 65 per cent of all passengers, all the rest being handled at Terminal 1.

Passengers on regular international flights increased by 36 per cent. The number of passengers on domestic flights rose by 85 per cent. Charter flights reported a 25 per cent increase due to the large number of holidaymakers at Turkish, Greek and Croatian resorts.

The airport handled 5,101 landings and take-offs, 13 per cent more than a year earlier. Domestic flights increased by 32 per cent and international services were 16 per cent more than in June 2016.

Compared to a year earlier, cargo and postal shipments increased by 7 per cent to 1,870 tonnes this last June.
