Sofia, July 18 (BTA) - President Rumen Radev asked the Constitutional Court to interpret provisions in the Bulgarian Constitution in connection with the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), the President's press secretariat reported on Tuesday.
The requested interpretations concern constitutional clauses about the terms of ratification and implementation of such mixed international agreements (Article 5, Paragraph 4 and Article 85, Paragraph 1, Item 9), Bulgaria's participation in EU affairs (Article 4, Paragraph 3), and the country's economic development (Articles 19 and 20).
According to the press release, the interpretation of these provisions is important for the national legal system and for Bulgaria's participation in building and developing the EU. It will help reinforce the country's status as a predictable partner in international relations. The clarification of the precise meaning of the constitutional clauses will also be useful when similar agreements related to Bulgaria's EU membership are concluded in the future.
