Sofia, December 12 (BTA) - Former foreign minister Daniel Mitov (August 2014 - January 2017) and his deputy Hristo Angelichin have been charged with official misconduct, the prosecution service said.

Mitov was charged with violating his duty in the first half of 2016 by acting for the benefit of a company, thus causing a detriment of nearly 494,460 leva to the Foreign Ministry.

Mitov signed annexes to an agreement with the Agriculture and Food Ministry in breach of the Public Finance Act and the Public Procurement Act. The Foreign Ministry was obliged to transfer that amount through the Agriculture Ministry, although the company exceeded the price offered due to inefficient control.

Similar charges were brought against Angelichin.

The Agriculture Ministry had selected that company through a competitive public procurement tender to book flights and accommodation and buy medical insurance for travel abroad.

Mitov was foreign minister of Georgi Bliznashki's caretaker cabinet and Boyko Borissov's second cabinet.
